Take the Lead
Take the Lead is our basic leash handling management program that teaches you the skills needed to begin proper communication with your dog. In this program, you will learn how to lead your dog on a leash and have him or her obey the sit and down commands. You will also learn how to correct negative behaviors such as pulling, jumping, nipping, or barking. In Take the Lead, your praise is the primary motivator, not treats or clickers.
You and your dog will learn the basic skills needed to start to work together as a team. This on-leash program is designed to teach you how to handle the leash, interact and safely communicate with your dog. You will learn how to lead your dog on a leash and have him or her obey simple commands such as heel, sit, stay, down and come. During Training Fundamentals, the dog will also learn social etiquette such as not to jump, pull or bite. You will learn the foundations for addressing any behavior issues exhibited by your dog.
Intended for puppies between the ages of eight weeks to nine months, the focus of this program is puppy obedience and proper socialization. Socializing puppies as early as possible helps with many behaviors – aggression and rude behaviors in particular. This critical development stage is foundational in establishing our relationship with our pups. You, as an owner, will learn how to care for and train your puppy so that your puppy will grow to be a joy to you and your family. You will be instructed on how to reliably train your dog on leash and will learn how to ask your pup to comply with your requests and behave according to your expectations. Your praise is the primary motivator. In addition to basic obedience, curriculum for Puppy Essentials includes: name recognition, proper socialization, kennel acclimation, potty training, redirect, drop it or leave it, and go to spot.
In this program, the foundation for basic obedience is put into place with added expectations designed to develop stronger teamwork between you and your dog. This is a great program if you’re looking to take a proactive approach to dog training and avoid some of the most common and troublesome behaviors in and around your home. During behavioral development, the focus expands past handling techniques and delves into the psychology of the dog to change the relationship between you and your companion and enjoy a new way of living. Effective communication is the most important aspect of your training and all communication is built on trust, boundaries, and respect. Curriculum for the Behavioral Development Program includes: walking in the heel position on- and off-leash, basic commands (heel, sit, stay, down and come), kennel acclimation, establishment of boundaries, redirect, distance recall, drop it and leave it, and go to spot.
This program is designed for owners who want complete control and influence of their dog on- and off-leash even when working through high-level distractions. Curriculum for the Masters Program includes control of your dog from a distance and is appropriate for working through the dynamics of multi-dog households. This proven methodology provides the dog with a firm foundation in basic obedience and addresses undesirable behaviors (such as excessive barking, destructive chewing, aggression, leash reactivity, anxiety, fear, etc.). Benefits to the owner are increased focus, enhanced ability to work through distractions, and greater confidence when enjoying the dog in various situations and locations as a full and functioning member of the family. A large focus is on educating the handler about the critical verbal and non-verbal components of effective communication that will establish you as the leader of your pack.
